Tom Stienstra is the author of Moon California Camping: The Complete Guide to More than 1,400 Tent and RV Campgrounds, originally published in 2007 and now in its 21st edition. It is the longest running and most popular outdoor guidebook series in America. He has also authored more than 20 other books He was the co-executive producer and host of the national PBS special, “The Mighty T, From Glacier to Golden Gate,” which won an Emmy for Health, Science Health and Environment from the National Academy of Television.

He received the “President’s Award, Best of the Best,” as National Outdoor Writer of the Year a record six times in three categories, and was the fourth living member inducted into the California Outdoors Hall of Fame newspaper division by the Outdoor Writers Association of America. He is best known as the outdoors editor for the San Francisco Chronicle and KCBS-740 Radio, both in San Francisco. Tom has hiked 45,000 miles, caught world-record fish, led dozens of expeditions and is a pilot certified to fly complex, high-powered aircraft. As a member of Mt. Shasta Rotary, he has helped develop, fund and administer programs that inspire families to get outdoors.

Tom Stienstra been named California Outdoor Writer of the Year five times. His articles appear on and in newspapers around the country. He broadcasts a weekly radio show on KCBS-San Francisco and formerly hosted an outdoor television show on CBS/CW San Francisco.
